Assessment Services

Good Fences Counseling provides clear, structured assessments for people seeking insight, meeting a legal requirement, or beginning treatment. Our work emphasizes accuracy and plain, honest feedback, without shame, judgment, or unnecessary diagnostic labels. Every assessment is built to do three things: help you understand what you're facing, identify workable next steps, and give you documentation you can use, whether for court, an employer, treatment planning, or your own growth.

For courts, attorneys, and referring agencies

  • Assessments offered: domestic violence, anger management, and general mental health

  • Any of these can be completed under court order

  • Domestic violence evaluations follow established Montana standards

  • Written documentation suitable for court, probation, attorneys, and treatment providers

  • Timely reporting and clear guidance on meeting mandated requirements

Domestic Violence Assessment

We offer formal domestic violence assessments for people involved in the legal system or seeking evaluation for personal or relational reasons. Following established Montana standards, these assessments combine objective measures, clinical interviewing, and a careful review of relevant behavioral patterns to evaluate risk, identify areas for change, and provide clear recommendations for intervention.

Anger Management Assessment

Anger management assessments clarify the emotional, behavioral, and situational factors behind patterns of anger, reactivity, or conflict. They're useful for people seeking self-understanding, those referred by family or an employer, and anyone who needs a formal evaluation for the court. The result is a clear, structured picture that leads to actionable recommendations, whether that's group treatment, individual therapy, or skills-based work.

General Mental Health Assessment

General mental health assessments take a comprehensive look at emotional wellbeing, relational patterns, stressors, and daily functioning. They help you understand what's bringing you to treatment, clarify a diagnosis when one is needed, and point to effective next steps in therapy. The process is collaborative and never reductive, aimed at a clearer picture of where you are and where you want to go.

A Clear Path Forward

Whatever the assessment, the process stays steady, respectful, and transparent, and it ends in real understanding and recommendations you can act on. Whether you're meeting a legal requirement or just looking for a clearer perspective on your own life, our assessments are built to support accountability, growth, and long-term wellbeing.
