Domestic Violence Offender Intervention Program and Anger Management Treatment

DV–OIP and Anger Management Treatment

Good Fences Counseling provides structured, accountable, and ethically grounded intervention services for individuals seeking to change harmful or ineffective patterns of behavior. Our Domestic Violence Offender Intervention Program (DV–OIP) and Anger Management services are designed to promote safety, improve personal relationships, and support meaningful behavior change without relying on shame, harsh confrontation, or rigid assumptions about clients. We believe people are capable of growth when they are offered clear guidance, appropriate accountability, and a professional environment that supports change with dignity and respect.

Domestic Violence Offender Intervention Program (DV–OIP)

Our DV–OIP meets the Montana Board of Crime Control Offender Intervention Program Standards and is fully court-compliant. This program is delivered in a structured group format and fulfills the state requirement of 40 hours of treatment. Participants who successfully meet program expectations receive a certificate of completion recognized by courts and referring agencies.

The DV–OIP focuses on accountability, emotional regulation, communication, and relationship-focused behavior change. While accountability is central, the program explicitly avoids shame-based approaches. We distinguish clearly between holding a person accountable for their actions and labeling them as fundamentally abusive. We recognize that individuals may engage in abusive behaviors for a range of reasons which can include emotional dysregulation, relational instability, learned patterns, or power-and-control dynamics. Recognition of the client's motivations facilitates healthy accountability for the behavior without reducing their identity to those behaviors. This balance supports both personal responsibility and the belief that people can develop healthier ways of relating.

Victim safety and victim choice are core priorities. Our program incorporates legally required coordination with victim services and offers trauma-informed outreach to victims or impacted partners. Participation of the victim is always voluntary. This structure allows for accountability, transparency, and enhanced safety while honoring the autonomy and wellbeing of victims throughout the process.

Anger Management Services

Anger Management treatment is offered in both group and individual formats, depending on client needs. While many participants self-refer, we also welcome court-mandated referrals and individuals whose partners or family members have encouraged them to seek support. Our curriculum is skill-based and structured, focusing on the development of emotional regulation, communication, accountability, and behavioral awareness.

This program emphasizes accountability without shame, reinforcing the principle that responsibility for one’s actions is essential, but shame undermines progress. Clients learn how to recognize escalation patterns, manage physiological and emotional cues, set effective boundaries, and respond in ways that support healthier relationships. We focus on sustainable behavior change, not punitive interventions or judgment.

A Foundation of Accountability, Safety, and Behavior Change

Across both DV–OIP and Anger Management services, the goal is to support individuals in making meaningful, lasting changes that improve relationship health and reduce harm. We maintain a formal, ethically grounded approach that prioritizes safety, accountability, and respect for all parties involved. Our programs are non-gendered, non-shaming, and rooted in the understanding that while behavior must be addressed directly and responsibly, people are capable of change when provided with structure, support, and a clear path forward.

Good Fences Counseling is committed to helping participants build safer, healthier, and more accountable relationships without anger, aggression, or abusive behaviors.
